Please help me to make a feijoada for my girlfriend
Hi, I have a brazilian girlfriend, we are together for nearly one year and she loves feijoada. We live in London together and sometimes we go to a brazilian restaurants and also I enjoy a lot.
The problem is the baked beans they sell in the shops are completely different and i don't know what to do. My girlfriend is vegetarian but she doesn't mind if I put some meat to give a flavour. I want to make a surprise to her when she come back from work next week. Any Brazilian from London or somebody to teaches me how to prepare Feijoada????

Hi King Jonny,
I think the best way if you pop in in some brazilian shops in London and they will help you with the ingredients. I lived in this city a few years ago and I know in Queensway and in Kensal Rise you will find some brazilian shops selling brazilian beans ready made in a pot or if you prefer you can buy raw/hard to cook in the saucepan. Forget the baked beans, they are already in tomato sauce and tastes different.
First, you need to start preparing your meal in the night before. You can add some smoked meats, ribs, and beef jerky in the sauce pan with the black beans. Change the water for three times. In the next day you start to cook and in the end you can remove the meat for your girlfriend. Also you can add some sides like the traditional brazilian rice, collard greens (couve a mineira), farofa (toasted manioc meal), hot pepper sauce, and orange wedges.
Prep Time: 15 hours
The total time of preparation is about 18h and the cooking time about 3h. I am writing for you the list of ingredients you can add. I will be surprised if you find everything in the brazilian shops in London but I am sure it will taste delicious!!!!
I am sure your girlfriend will enjoy!!!!!!!!!
Ingredients:
1 1/2 pounds small black turtle beans
1/2 pound Brazilian dried beef, or beef jerky
1 ham hock
1 pound pork ribs
1 pound smoked chorizo, or other spicy smoked sausage
1 pound beef sirloin or smoked pork loin
1/2 pound slab smoked bacon
1/2 pound smoked pig or beef tongue
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 onions, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, mashed
1/3 cup chopped parsley

Very good...tomorrow I´m going to eat a Feijoada at Franz, an excellent restaurant near home.
