I learned in the school that Brazil was a colony from Portugal... I just forgot how did you get rid of them? It was in blood or in peace? Was it easy?

No, we didn't have to fight... It was an easy stuff.... i think

This was a process which liberated Brazil from Portugal in the XIX century. Officially we celebrate this day on 7 of september (1822) when it happened the episode called Grito do Ipiranga "Ipiranga's Scream". The official history says that in the edge of the Ipiranga river (today SP) the prince D.Pedro cried out with his delegation: Independecia ou Morte "Independence or Death"

To put it bluntly, after Napoleon invaded Portugal, the independence from Portugal was achieved in 1822.
