There's a lot of documentaries on it, as well as books that you can buy or borrow for free from your local library. You can also get some free info off the internet by checking out encyclopedias or by simply visiting valid historic websites that have info about Brazil.

Spending sometime in reading books will help a lot. But making some research online would be more easy and fast!
-
Here - HISTORY OF BRAZIL you will find a quick brief synopsis of the history of Brazil, but as suggested by some of the other forum posters, I believe a good book on the total history of Brazil -such as
"A Concise History of Brazil (Cambridge Concise Histories)"
-
I suggest you better ask MR.GOOGLE.

Another great way to learn about Brazilian history is to actually talk to the old people from there. You can get a more personal perspective on Brazil's history through their eyes!

A very brief resume of the Brazilian History:
Brazil was discovered in the 1500 year by Portugueses;
D. Joćo, then the King of Portugal and Brazil, has closed Brazil for the foreigners for about 300 years;
Some nations as England, Spain, France and Dutches have tried to invade Brazil as many times, specially by the North and Northeast, but no success;
Then, D. Joćo has came back to Portugal, and his son, D. Pedro II Has taken over the nation;
Later, D. Pedro I, the son of D. Pedro II, has decreted the Indepence of Brazil from the Portugal Kingdom in 1800 years;
There were a few revolutions;
Then, came the Republic of Brazil.
...and that“s it.
