Native Americans, obviously. I think there are some tribes throughout South America. As far as I know, all have had contact with the global community, but some still maintain their culture.

They were called Tupinambas or Tupis and spoke tupi. Very interesting language and I found out blue and green had the same word. They must have been colorblind like some man are?!

Do Brazilians today know how to speak these two languages? I am interested on this topic. So what is the national language of Brazil if there are 65 indigenous tribes? I assumed this 65 tribes has 65 different languages.

Today, in Brazil, live about 460 thousand Indians, distributed among 225 indigenous societies, which comprise approximately 0.25% of the population. It is clear that given population considers only those living in indigenous villages, with estimates that in addition, there are between 100 and 190 thousand living outside of indigenous lands, including in urban areas. There are 63 references to non-Indians also contacted, and there are groups who are demanding recognition of their status with the federal agency indigenous.

    Hi Sarah,

Brazil's first inhabitants were Indians who came walking from North America through Central America.

The truly history is that one day, in a very distant past, the sea level has down in the world, then many Asiatic walkers have crossed from Asia to North America by walking through the Bering Sea land Until Alaska.

The most typical Indians are located in Amazon region, and they speak "Tupi Guarani".

The Native American peoples who were the original residents of what is now Brazil included the Arawak and Carib groups in the north, the Tupí-Guaraní of the east coast and the Amazon River valley, the Ge of eastern and southern Brazil, and the Pano in the west.

After the colonization of Brazil by the Portuguese, many natives of Brazil were displaced. Do the Indians of Brazil receive any kind of welfare from the government? Just curious. Thank you for any information you may have on this subject.

In a very long past, the sea level has lowered in the world, so the people who lived in the north of Russian, and north of Europe have accrossed by walking to the North America, then those people continued to walk until South America. Therefore, the first inhabitants in Brazil were the indians and their language was Tupi Guarany. There are still many indian tribes in Brazil, in the centre of Brazil or in Amazon forest.

But in 1500, Pedro Álvarez Cabral, a portuguese navigator explorer discovered Brazil.

When gold was discovered in the southeast, around 1690, many new Portuguese settlements were formed. The Portuguese mixed freely with the Indians, and there developed a large group of Brazilians with mixed European and Indian ancestry. African slaves were brought to work in the mines. The gold rush caused a great European migration to and within Brazil. As the population increased, the Portuguese tightened their administrative control over the colony, causing resentment among earlier Brazilian settlers.
