Local Foods
While in Curitiba, a ‘must have' is the official dish of Parana - ‘barreado'. This is a beef stew that simmers slowly for more than a day in a clay pot, sealed at its mouth, and is served with cassava flour and banana.
But the national favorite is the seasoned pork and black bean stew called ‘feijoada'.

Citizens of Curitaba love to eat local favorites served in the open markets. Also, other specialities, you will find pierogis. They were originally a Polish recipe, the dish has been adapted to Brazilian taste: it’s a potato filled with cheese and smothered in sauce. Also quite popular are pastels, fried pancakes filled with carne (meat), queijo (cheese) and many other delicious combinations.
