Bank accounts?
What do you need to get a bank account in Brazil? How much does it cost to open one?
-
I don't know how you can get one if you are not a citizen. If you are a citizen you need ID and a deposit. I think they need to verify your address, but your address should be on the ID. Other than that, you just need to know all your personal information and numbers.

I heard for non-residents you can only open an account if you do some big investment there. What are the well know local banks you have there?
-
I am a non-resident, I never had such instance, as I carried my credit cards with me. But i think there will be surely some extra formality for opening an account for a non-resident person in another country.

Just curious which banks are well known and popular over there? Are there many international banks over there like Citibank?
-
Don't know much about that. But ya, you can find CitiBank there for sure as it has it branches all over South & North America.
-
yes there are some international banks like HSBC bank in brazil.
-
I guess you can find Citibank in almost every country, being the largest bank in the world. What about local banks over there?
-
local banks are good, some friends of mine who had international bank cards were able to access their ATM with some fees.
-
I found couples of local banks names, while googling but to my surprise, there is no mention of Citibank but HSBC...
