    Hello Bellatrix.rye

I would like to assist you with your dilemma. Now, three of the most important things that you need to open a bank account in Brazil are:
    -Proof of address
    -Identification card or passport
    -CPF

The rules vary across the board as they relate to foreigners opening bank accounts here. There are banks that will only allow foreigners to open an account with them if they are here on business and can prove this through a Carteira de Trabalho (Work Card). There are others that a bit more flexible and all you have to do is present the documents listed above to ensure that you can open an account.

If you find too much hassle, there is always Western Union that you can resort to. The only problem are the high charges that your family will have to pay to be able to transfer money to you here in Brazil. Banco do Brasil is the only bank that you can collect Western Union transactions.

Yes, Citibank has many bank agencies in Brazil and I think that you can open a new account fro Brazil in your country, anyway, there are excellent banks in Brazil such as Itaú and Bradesco.

Have a good time in Brazil!

    Excellent link.

Yes, anyway, I think that you can open an account in the Citybank at your country, and when you are in Brazil, you will be treated as an international citzen in the agencies of Citybank of Brazil, faster than opening a new bank account.

Yes HSBC is a good option. You should not have any issues if you have an account overseas and come here.

Brazilianbraniac, I was just curious, but is PayPal available in Brazil? Do the shops and Internet sites located in Brazil accept this form of bank payments? Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot and have a great weekend. :-)

I think Citibank is the best choice, because Citibank is an American bank in Brazil.

Paypal is available in Brazil, but I think you can´t pay purchases in Brazil using Paypal, because Paypal workss on Dollar.
