Here are some great museums in Brazil that I would highly recommend:

    Sacred Art Museum
    Casa de Jorge Amado
    Afro-Brasilian Museum
Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia-Salvador
Museu Nautico da Bahia/Farol da Barra/Forte de Santo Antonio
    City Museum

I believe most of these are open year round.

guys i am telling you again. don't mix Rio with Brazil. if you want to see the actual view of Rio then you must have to stay a long time there. and its the best place of Brazil. so just make a plan to visit Rio. then if you get time then visit the rest Brazil.

If your friend want to relax by the beach I would recommend some places in the northeast part like Porto de Galinhas, Porto Seguro e Ilha do Caju (a beautiful place between Maranhao and Aracaju) but if your friend want to have a night life and busy time there I would definitely recommend Rio de Janeiro. This city has beautiful beaches, amazing views and exciting night life!

Salvador de Bahia - dubbed a World Heritage Site by Unesco – claims to be one of the largest collections of colonial and Baroque architecture in Latin America and offers a very comfortable tropical climate, miles of beautiful beaches and lush tropical vegetation. The historical heart of the city with its 2 million inhabitants is the Pelourinho Plaza, shortly ago center of illegal activities. This area has become the center of attraction for cultural life in Salvador, the 3rd city of Brazil. By day, the area is the stomping ground of craftsmen and artists. By night it transforms into a rhythmic extravaganza.

I can recommend Fernando de Noronha islands, in the north region of Brazil...wonderful small islands with calm beaches, beaches for surfing, diving with dolphins, less people, etc.

The Bahia state beaches are very greatly appreciated... Ilhéus and Itacaré are good destinations, with warm sea all the year, many coconuts trees and sun. Between Ilheus and Olivença there is a long beach with many kiosks, where you can hear local music and eat seafood. In the south of Bahia seashore you can go to Cumuruxatiba, very nice place with good inns. In the months of October and November you can do sea trips to watch the humpback whales.

If you want to find quiet places, beautiful beaches and cheap food and hotels, go to the south coastal of São Paulo state. Cananéia and Ilha Comprida (Long Island) are good destination.
