    Default Any tips and advices to avoid pickpockets?

    I know that pickpockets are every where in the world and I heard that in Brazil they are not shy and can get your things any time of the day and even if you notice it...

    I'm going to Brazil next month and I am a bit afraid about this social problem, any ideas to avoid them?

    Provide a small traveling bag or a sling bag that you can put all your important things like wallet, camera, video camera, money, music player, passport and etc. Go out with a group so that everyone can notice easily. Be friendly to everybody and try not to be a flashy person.

    In addition, if you are bringing bag with you.. put it in your front view.. don't let it be displayed in your back or side if you don't want it to be whacked or opened.. also, put valuable things in a secret pocket if possible..

    Goodluck on your trip.. be a smart traveller.. assess the place you are going.. Have a company and don't get in a crowded place..

    Here are a few tips to avoid pick pockets:

    1. Don't let strangers approach or touch you for any reason.
    2. Try not to let people see where you keep your money.
    3. Keep your valuables close to you at all times, in front pocket.
    4. Where a money belt around your waist or neck.
    5. If you are traveling on a train or bus, make sure you hold onto your valuables
    or put them underneath you just in case you fall asleep.

    Hope this helps! Take care.

    Yes, Danno has posted important tips to avoiding pickpockets, in Brazil.

    In addition, I would recommend you as following:

    1. If you are driving a car (rented or not), please close the windows when you stop in traffic lights;
    2. Donīt let any values into the car;
    3. Donīt use expensive jewelry, watches, etc.

    I hope you have a nice stay in Brazil!

    Carry cash and credit cards in separate wallets and pockets. If possible, divide your cash between your wallet and pocket.

    Keep your wallet in an inside jacket pocket or the front pocket of your trousers.

    Keeping your hands in your pockets keeps a thief s hands out.

    Don't keep a purse or handbag in your hand: it can easily be knocked away or snatched. Get a bag with a shoulder strap and wear it with the outside flap or pocket towards your body. An open-top handbag invites trouble.

    Carry your house keys in your pocket, not in your handbag.

    Make a list of the identification numbers of your credit cards, driver's licence, cheque cards and so on, as well as the numbers to call in case of theft.

    Keep one copy at home and another in a locked drawer at work.

    Never flash money or jewellery in public - when buying a newspaper or at a bus stop, for example.

    When shopping, be especially alert at the entrances to shops, on escalators and in lifts, in bargain or demonstration areas, or in any place where large crowds gather. Also be on the lookout at the checkout counter, where you might lay down your purse and parcels.

    i hope you enjoy in brazil

    the only thing that can protect from picking your pockets is to be careful during walking or visiting any place. mainly on the foad and the dark allies.

    I know it's sad...but I will recommend you to have in your pockets a fake wallet with some coins and a little amount of money. If you are robbed let them take you this fake wallet and keep your money safe inside your trousers

    One second is all a pickpocket needs. A brief diversion, a quick move and before you can take a breath, your wallet is gone.
    The greatest advantage that pickpockets have is that most people think it can’t happen to them.
