There are many taxis in most US cities, but not so much in the suburbs and rural areas. How is it in Brazil? Are there many taxis?

In the cities you will find more taxis, but I think you can call them on the phone from anywhere.
You should also call various taxis to quote the best price. You'll usually find various taxis at the airport, and sometimes the airport has their own taxi service.
You might also want to consult the local phone book of the city your visiting as almost all the services will be listed there.
May I know what's the usual or average price for a taxi over there for let's say a distance like 5km?
There is no problem when it comes to hiring a taxi or car in Brazil. As mentioned above , you can have one just via phone.
You mean $10 as in terms of USD? Quite pricey compare to my place the least but I believe the service and such is better.
Well the price is ok, from my perspective. Actually varies from country to country. The countries in the east will definitely find it bit pricey.
hehe, the price is slightly better here but just wonder does the taxi there use meters? Sad to say most taxis here don't and I don't mind if it's bit more expensive as long the service is good and comfortable ride.
I think everywhere aren't taxis is suburbs, just make use of this call taxis . . .
