    Default Fear of flying

Do any of you have a fear of flying? Do you know anyone who does? What do they (or you) do to overcome it?

I believe that planes are safer than cars. You have more of a chance of dying while riding in a car than while flying in a plane.

Flying is fun. One fears only for the first time and then it becomes usual like elavators.

I fully agree with Tucker16. Nowadays flying is very safe. The various technological advancements in aircrafts and airport facilities has made flying much safer.

well in starting all of us have the fear of flying...gradually we get use to it...to overcome it we usually hold our partner hands and close our eyes...but there is no need to worry the pilots are professional....

Just like nuaeman, my fear of flying was cured after I got to experience it the first time. I was just 10 years old then. After that, I'm always looking forward for the next flight.

I have always travelled short distances so fear was never an issue. The longest time I have spent on a plane was probably 3 hours or so. Within a few weeks I will be visiting Asia so that means 16 hour flights and stuff which will probably make me way more nervous and uncomfortable. I guess the best way to kill time is to sleep. Time does pass quickly when you are dozing off!

I guess you can't sleep if you're afraid. You can talk to the one next to you so that you'll get over the anxiety over flying.

Girl, I suggest you think more of your vacation like how beautiful the places you are planning to go to instead of thinking about being stuck in the plane for long hours.

I think the places are worth your courage

I don't have fear until the flight takes off, but when up at 35,000 feet I feel little tensed!

Well, when I first travel via airplane, I really didin't sleep the night before the flight. I have lots of disastrous thoughts overflowing on my head.

During the flight, my husband accompanied me throughout. He assisted me until we reached our destination. When we arrived, I really feel sick because of the jet-lag.

After that, my fear disappear and now, I enjoy traveling through planes a lot.

I like to fly but my fear are heights. To overcome it I just close my eyes and think of the happiest moments of my life.

Same here... I have the fear of heights... Ironically,, I love hiking and rappelling. Because those activities help me overcome my fear of heights.

I have never ridden a plane yet. Makes me wonder how it feels. For me, the most dangerous part of flying is the takeoff and landing where most plane crashes happen.

I have no fear of heights... and I love riding a plane. I always make it a point that I should be sitting next to window view to see the heights hahha

I was just watching a segment on "The View" and Whoopi has a fear of flying. She took a class given by Virgin Atlantic Airlines(I think) to help her get over this fear. I was one of those people who took flights to Puerto Rico for the day. After 9/11, I have had this huge fear. Hope to get past it by the time I go away.
