I believe the airline your traveling with could perhaps give you a good idea, or even a travel agency. But off the top of my head I could probably safely say the following would get you in trouble for sure:
guns, illegal drugs, and perhaps even certain medical drugs

Also certain goods you bring from Brazil that might be legal over there, or that even appear to be harmless may be confiscated once you arrive in the USA. I remember bringing in some fruits from another country once and they made me throw them away since they told me it had fruit flies or something like that.

Other than any illegal and harmless stuff you can carry anything. You cannot carry a knife even with you. I think Gary40 has mentioned it better above..

I think knife should be ok? I mean those small ones like penknives or such. Btw if we really have to bring in those prohibited stuffs can we request a permission or something or is it really strict?

I'm not sure what specific items are not allowed aside from the usual but you may want to check out this site to have an idea on what items you need to pack or bring with you - ecobrazil.com - What to bring to Brazil

its a normal thing. you should not take any king of sharp objects. not even a nail cutter. avoid metallic things. don't take any kind of things which may become rotten during your flight. it will definitely cause you big trouble. don't make your luggage more than 30KG. and please don't guess about the weight. make you sure by measuring. you can take metallic and sharp objects in your luggage which will not remain in your sit or bunker.
    thanks

No sharp objects or metallic objects, no liquid toiletries above 300ml.
If you bring gifts for the holidays, do not wrap them. over-sized electronics should be in your checked baggage
Do not forget to bring your valid passport, ID's and ticket!

you can also take your driving license with you. they may not be used in Brazil but can help you to get a car or any vehicle rented for a long time. its just a document that you can drive and have the permission to drive in any kind of road of your country. its nothing but a sample.
    thanks
