    Default Dependant Visa - Advice??

    Hi there,

My boyfriend is being transferred to Brazil with his company early next year and I would like to join him at some point later in the year.

The problem is that we have not been living together for over a year and as we both have out own houses/incomes etc I cannot prove that I am financially dependant on him.

Do you know how we can get around this? (We have been told the 'easy option' would be to just get married however we are not ready to do that yet!!)

Another option is a co-habitiation certificate however although we live in Scotland and there is such a thing I don't know if that would be recognised officially??

    Any ideas/information appreciated!!

As a general rule, Brazil requests visas based on the principle of reciprocity of treatment given to Brazilian citizens. You DO need a visa (either for tourism or business) BEFORE entering Brazil if you are a citizen of the United States. Citizens of some countries do not require a visa to visit Brazil for tourism purposes, for a stay of up to 90 days (if necessary an extension may be authorized by the Federal Police in Brazil).

    tourist visa would be great

A visto de permanência can also cover dependent family members such as the applicant's spouse, children under 21 years or 24 if in higher education or the applicant's parents. The family members will be issued the same visa as the applicant.
However, note that the dependent family members will not be allowed to obtain work permits in Brazil. In this case you should consult a professional advisor who will be able to help you with your dependant's application.

THERES no such thing in brazil! Dependend to a non relative. or dependent to a friend! get married!

I was just wondering.. If ever the applicant will become Brazilian citizen, will it follow that the dependents will be citizen too.. It really puzzled me..
