Do you know of any websites where I can learn Portuguese for free? Is it possible to learn Portuguese without taking a real live class?

I tried looking for some on Google, but most of the websites seemed to overcharge.

Well it's possible to learn without a formal classroom education but it's a bit harder for some people. If you practice it with other people and/or watch it on TV/movies you can probably do it. A lot of people learn it over time by practicing with people that speak it. You can try it by going to Portuguese chatrooms, however that's not the best place as there's a lot of typos and slang but it gives you an idea.

best thing I have ever found for learning is the Rosetta Stone software. This software is amazing you can actually think in the other language so speaking and writing become natural I know it is expensive but well worth the cost.

I don't think you can learn a language well without having to talk with another person as you may be surprised even if you know the grammar and such but casual talk is another matter.

    Try this site:

Learn Portuguese - Portuguese Language - EasyPortuguese

but it would be best if you'll be able to converse with a real portugese speaking person
