Thread: How hard is it to learn a new language?

How hard is it to learn a new language? On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the hardest, how would you rate it?

It's easier for younger people, I think. It's not that hard, but it takes quite a bit of time.

Well it depends, if you put effort into it then like a 6 or 7.

If you don't put enough effort, you'll struggle more in it. Try to find some sort of motivation. Figure out a positive outcome that might come out of you learning the language. For example, dating someone that speaks that language, a better job etc.

It can be quite hard to learn any new language, except for children i guess. However, with focus and determination, it's not an impossible thing to do.

its not hard to learn a new language,if we think its hard then it is,if not then it isn't,its all in the mind,remember the time when we were little kids we didn't knew any language but with time we learned diff. languages,i have a friend who knows 8 languages ,on a scale i would say it depends on you,if you think its easy then it can be 1 or 2, or if you think its tough then it can even be 9 or 10.

Some languages are known to be harder than others, like Russian and such. I wish to learn one or more language like Japan as I woud be able to visit those countries without much problem in knowing signs and such. I wonder if Portuguese is hard to learn?

Nopes mate nothing is hard until you accept it. If you can get in love with the language you are learning,eradicating all your worries whether u can or not ,learn the language. And also putting you complete effort can do it in possibly few months.

Yeah, technically may be hard but with passion and interest learning any language can be fun and less difficult.
