I think coming to Brazil and trying to use what you learn will help you. Also, you can watch your favorite movies in Portuguese.

Just remember "Rome was not built in a day". Practicing regularly or either way perseverance will help you . Besides watching movies with Portuguese subtitles, interacting with one who knows Portuguese can help a lot .

I agree with others that living and speaking with those who speaks Portuguese is the fastest way to learn... those books, language centers and such takes very long time.

I think so, but not only for portuguese language, you can do the same in all ones.
Concordo com você, mas não apenas para o português, você pode fazer o mesmo em todas.

I was referring as a whole to all language, mate but the main emphasize was on Portuguese , as the subject was related to one.

I agree, it just goes to the country It really can learn the language.
I studied Italian with Italian teacher, I had private lessons for three months three times a week, when I arrived in Italy not "capivo un cazzo" did not understand and could not express myself, I have a good cultural level, but only un able to read the italian book six years later. so I will arrange to spend a few seasons in England and Australia to learn English. If someone on this board want to have conversation and is Italian or Portuguese in Sao Paulo, we may agree, in return I learn English

I think that the fastest way to learn Portuguese is living in Brazil for one year, at least.

I can't speak for anyone else but from when I arrived in Rio in 2002 I became pretty much fluent within a year.

I did four hours a week of lessons for three months, and immersed myself as much as possible in news and current affairs programmes on television (best pronunciation - easiest to understand). Boris Casoy on the SBT channel speaks very clearly.

Of course, it helps if you're living in Brazil and constantly exposed to the language.
