Yes, I am a native Brazilian resident and this article is absolutely true!

Everything is very expensive for all of us Brazilians. Our currency (BRL-Real) has overvalued about 50% over the dollar in the last 4 years, so everything is expensive for us, because our salaries, incomes, etc can´t follow the prices rising.

Yes, that was a good article - Business in Brazil may be growing at a rapid rate, but the influx of foreign investment and fast pace of growth have really weakened nation's currency.

The Brazilian real is now referred to by some as the world's most overvalued currency, meaning that daily life in the country has become incredibly expensive, according to a recent article I have read!!!

The cost of living is high every where in the world now and the reason behind is that there is high inflation due to financial crisis.
As far as Brazil is concerned there not much of a difference.

The cost of living is very correlated to the currency value of the country.

If the currency is too overvalued, so the cost of living will be high, and vice versa.

I do not even need to read the article, I lived in Italy for many years and much there cost much less than the big difference in the quality of everything that is consumed

It has been said that Brazil requires the highest cost of living in all of South America. With rapid economic development over the past 10 years the standard of living has risen for millions of households. Brazil’s economy has grown into one of the major powerhouses of the world and in the process has created millions of jobs, raising average incomes and boosting consumer spending. The end result has been a rapid rise in prices over the last couple of years and so the cost of living has risen for both tourists and Brazilians alike.

Yes Danno, and there is a food (agricultural commodities) inflation process in the world.

Brazil is commodities and this inflation process is affecting our economy, too.

In comparison with cost of living in USA, Canada, and some countries in Europe, as Italy and Spain some products and services in Brazil are cheaper. We pay few price for drinking water, for exemple, and we have many sources of drinking water. The same to eletric power. The fuel prices are lower also and we have the ethanol cheaper than gasoline.

House prices are lower than the countries of Europe and North America. The same can be said of the value of rents. You can buy a good house for 300.000,00 reais, which is equivalent to US$168.000,00.

The cost of living in Brazil has grown due to the strong Brazilian currency (BRL).

Brazil has become richer than decades ago, so the Brazilian currency has overvalued and the prices are higher, besides of the high inflow investments to Brazil.
