Thread: Best method of shipping from N.America to Brazil?

Does anyone know how to send bulk parcels to Brazil economically and without paying the duty?
In the past I have sent various gifts and parcels to Brazil with mixed and confusing results. I have sent some electronics to friends via courier, and they have received them with no problems. The next time I sent children's clothing to another friend (80 USD value, no tags) and they demanded R300 before releasing the package. Needless to say, they declined and the parcel was sent back to me.
I have family and friends in SE Asia and many companies specialize in sending door to door bulk parcels. For example. A company I use often, offers for 100 USD to send a 24" x 24" x 36" box with no weight limit (you can send bricks if you wanted) door to door. It does take 6-10 weeks.
Is there a Brazil company that offers something similar?
I plan to move there within the year and I have some household and personal items I would like to take with me. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, that would be great.

Thank you for your input mariespurlock. I checked out Fedex price quotes and it was unrealistic for me. Their most economical rate from Canada to Rio for a 100 lbs package is 1725 USD! That does not include the possible tax the policia federal might place on the package. I am not looking to send stuff that would warrant a sea box, unfortunately my friends in Brazil can not provide me with a satisfactory solution either.
