    Default Crime?

How is Brazil's Crime? I read and have been told by many that it can be quite dangerous if you are not too careful. Is there certain parts that need to avoid when I am there? Thanks.

The Crime level is pretty high in a lot of areas of Brazil, but I guess more so in Salvador, Rio and parts of Sao Paulo.

In the well off areas there seems to be mainly gunpoint robbings (of Gringoes) and flash kidnaps where you are kidnapped at gunpoint for a couple of hours whilst they drive you around Town making you take out as much of your money as possible from Cashpoint Machines.

Latest form of Crime I´ve come across recent in Sao Paulo is criminals entering Coffee Bars in well off areas, which have WiFi, and stealing peoples´ Laptops (at gunpoint) whilst they are using them.

Overall Life can be very good in Brazil (for Gringoes) but you need to be very alert the whole time.

I never had problems! Depends really where you walk and when you walk! Avoid to go in isolated areas alone during the night. I think you will be fine...

Its not that bad as what we are hearing on news. I usually walk by myself but I did not encounter any problems. Just be friendly to anyone and be kind. And besides that, there will be an orientation about the country so that you may get the exact information about what you need to learn before you step on the land of this country. Brazil's airport security provides the passenger with good protection because they strictly check the visitor's personal information. Political and labor strikes only occur few times in Rio which is one of the most popular cities in Brazil. It is always controllable by police and other security-related officers. Being always cautious may greatly help travelers and tourist. Going out late at night usually in unsafe in every country, it's really common to other countries too. Enjoy Brazil and just really pay much attention to the environment.

No, crime isn't everywhere. You won't have any problem in Singapore or Dubai, I guarantee you that.

Even some really poor countries like Indonesia, Laos, Eritrea,....are very safe.

Brazil has a huge safety issue, you better wach out.

There is far far more poverty in Indonesia than in Brazil. Brazil is a so called "Emergin market", Indonesia is just a dam poor developing country.
But there are no crime issues in Indonesia, there is even no problem to walk arround in Slum areas.

Yes, such as other countries, there are places that you must avoid visiting. Please you must ask to your tourist guide or hotel recepcionists about dangerous places.

You can´t be so afraid about that, there many beautiful, safe and amazing places to visit without any crime.
