The meaning of the name of Sao Paolo is " Saint Paul". Sao Paolo is the Portuguese for Saint Paul .

I see, how does the place gets its name? I know about Saint Paul being one of the apostles.

Porto Alegre is Portuguese for Joyous Port. It's the 10th largest city in Brazil.

"The name means Saint Paul in Portuguese, as it was founded in 1554, on the Catholic feast of the Conversion of Paul, the Apostle, on January 25."

São Paulo!!! The city that never sleeps.... restaurants, markets, bars, clubs 24/7!!!

All kinds of foods, styles, amusement parks, museum, zoo, safari zoo, parks etc.
Those who comes to SP have to go to '_CHURRASCARIAS_'.... all the best meat you can eat for about R$20,00...

I Like Sao Paulo because it represents St. Paul, which is a Saint in the Roman Catholic religion.

Most of the names of states, cities, districts, and streets are very correlated to the indians culture who have had lived in Brazil, when Portugueses have colonized Brazil. Most of these names are in Tupi Guarany, the main language spoken by those indians. Therefore, names such as Amazonas, Sergipe, Manaus, Ipanema, Copacabana, Maceió, Guaratinguetá, etc are native indian names.
